Publish a page publicly as part of your website
A public page is a page anyone can open without signing in. Use public pages for a landing page, a service menu, a contact form or a status page. Together, your public pages make up your website. Public pages need the Starter plan or above.
Make a page public
Every page has a Show in setting with three choices: App (your team only), Portal (signed-in customers) and Website (public).
- Find the page in the sidebar and click its menu.
- Choose Show in.
- Pick Website.
The page moves out of your team's app and into your website.
Or ask the assistant
Describe the page and say it should be public. For example:
"Create a public page that lists our services and prices, with a button to request a quote."
The assistant builds the page, sets it to show on the website, and opens the tables it needs to the public.
Preview your website
Open Tools in the sidebar and choose Website. Your website opens in a preview. Use the page menu in the header to move between pages, rename a page, move it back to the app or the portal, or delete it.
Your website address
Click the gear icon in the header of the website preview to open Website settings. The top row shows your Website address. By default it is your Unstack address. You can use your own domain instead. See Use your own domain.
Each public page has its own path under that address, made from the page's slug. One page is your Home page, which is what visitors see at the root of the address. Choose it in Website settings.
What a public page can show
A public page has no signed-in user, so it can only use data you have opened to the public. Each table has a public access setting:
- Not Public: the default. Public pages cannot use the table.
- Public Read: anyone can read the table's records. Use this for things like a service list.
- Public Write: anyone can add a record but not read them. Use this for forms.
- Public R/W: both.
To change it, open Tools, choose Data & API, open the table on the Tables tab and use the public access menu in the table's header. The assistant also sets this for you when it builds a public page.
Only open what a stranger should see. Never set a table of customers, invoices or anything private to Public Read. To show a customer their own records, use the portal instead. See What is the customer portal?.
Limits on public traffic
To protect your app, each visitor is limited to 100 reads and 20 submissions per minute. Normal visitors never notice this.
Take a page down
Set the page's Show in back to App, or delete the page. To keep the site out of search results while you are still building it, turn on Hide this site from search engines in Website settings. See Search and sharing settings for your website.
