What is the customer portal?
The customer portal is a separate, signed-in area of your app for the people you serve: customers, clients, tenants or members. They log in with their own email and password and see only what you choose to show them. The portal is included on every plan, including Free.
What it is for
Your team works in the app. Your customers do not belong there, but they often need a small window into it. The portal is that window. Say you run a property management company. In a portal, each tenant could:
- See their lease and their payment history.
- Open a maintenance request.
- Follow the progress of the requests they have already made.
Each tenant sees only their own records.
How it differs from your team
- Portal users are not team members. They cannot open your app, your tables, your settings or your tools. They only see pages that are set to show in the portal.
- They have their own login. Portal users sign in at your portal address, not at the address your team uses.
- They are not part of your workspace. A portal login gives access to your portal and nothing else.
The pieces
- Portal pages are the pages your customers see. A portal page is an ordinary page whose Show in setting is Portal.
- Portal users are the people who can sign in. You invite them, or you let them sign up on their own.
- The portal address is where they go. By default it is your Unstack address followed by
/portal. With your own domain it can beportal.yourdomain.com. - The login page and the portal's look can be changed to match your brand.
Where to find it
Open Tools in the sidebar and choose Portal. Your portal opens in a preview, so you see what a customer would see. From there you can:
- Move between your portal pages and the login page using the page menu in the header.
- Click the gear icon to open Portal settings, where you invite users and control sign-ups.
Build your first portal page
Ask the assistant. Be specific about who the portal is for and what they should see. For example:
"Build a client portal where each customer can see their own jobs and invoices, and submit a new service request."
The assistant creates the pages, sets them to show in the portal, and sets up the link between portal logins and your customer records so each customer sees only their own data.
Plans
- The portal is included on every plan.
- Changing the portal's look and login page needs the Starter plan or above.
