Payment fees
Each payment you take through your app has one transaction fee. It is a percentage of the payment plus 30 cents, and the percentage depends on your plan.
What the fee covers
The transaction fee is the total fee on a payment. It covers card processing by Stripe, fraud protection and the platform. There is no separate processing charge on top of it.
Where to see your rate
The rate for each plan is shown on the plan cards on the pricing page, written as a percentage plus 30¢ per transaction. It also appears in the comparison table on that page, in the Transaction fee row.
Paid plans have a lower rate than the Free plan. The Free plan has no monthly price and is paid for through its transaction fee, so if you take a meaningful amount in payments, compare what you would pay in fees on Free with the monthly price of Starter. Enterprise rates are agreed individually.
Which payments have the fee
The same fee applies to every card payment that goes through your payment account:
- Card payments at the register, using a card reader.
- Invoices paid online.
- Each subscription charge.
- Online checkout payments from your pages.
Which do not
- Cash sales at the register. They are recorded as sales, but no payment is processed.
- Invoices you mark as paid yourself, for example when a customer pays by check.
How the fee is taken
The fee is taken from each payment before the rest is added to your balance. You do not get a separate bill for it. Your balance and your payouts already have fees removed. See Payouts and balance.
A worked example with made-up numbers: if your plan's rate were 3% plus 30¢, a $100.00 card payment would have a $3.30 fee, and $96.70 would be added to your balance.
Your subscription is separate
The transaction fee is not the same thing as the price of your Unstack plan. Your plan is one flat price for the workspace. The transaction fee applies only when you take payments, and you pay nothing in fees in a month when you take none.
Other costs to expect
- Card readers are bought once. See Order and set up a card reader.
- A custom domain bought through Unstack renews yearly. See Use your own domain.
Lowering what you pay in fees
If payments are a large part of your business, moving from Free to a paid plan lowers your rate. Compare the two on the pricing page using your own monthly payment volume.
