Bill customers on a subscription

Subscriptions bill a customer automatically on a schedule. Use them for retainers, memberships, maintenance plans or anything else you charge for every week, month or year. Subscriptions are included on every plan.

  2. Open the Subscriptions tab.
  3. On the "Your subscriptions" card, click Add to my app.

A Subscriptions page is added to your app and opens. From then on, open it from the sidebar. The page is yours to change with the assistant.

You need a connected payment account first. See Set up payments.

Start a subscription

  1. On the Subscriptions page, click New subscription.
  2. Pick the customer, or choose Someone new… and enter a name and email.
  3. Under Plan, describe what they get. This text is shown on the receipt.
  4. Enter the amount and choose the interval: per week, per month or per year.
  5. Optionally enter a number of free trial days.
  6. Create it.

You then get a link to a secure card page. The subscription starts once the customer enters a card there. You can:

When the card is entered, the customer shows as subscribed.

What happens after that

The customer is charged on schedule from your payment account. Renewals, retries of failed charges and receipts are handled for you. The money reaches your bank with your normal payouts.

Let customers manage their own billing

Each subscription has a billing portal link. Click the link icon on the subscription to copy it, and send it to the customer. In the portal they can update their card, see their invoices and cancel.

Change or end a subscription

On each subscription you can:

Fees

Every subscription charge carries the same transaction fee as a card payment. See Payment fees.

Using subscriptions in your app

A subscription can keep a row in one of your own tables in step, so you can show who is subscribed on a customer page, or start an automation when someone subscribes or cancels. Ask the assistant to set that up, for example: "Show each customer's subscription status on their record."
