AI agents: create an AI employee
An AI agent is an AI employee you create inside your app. You give it a job, the information and tools it needs, and a way to start working. Agents are part of the Starter plan and up.
What an agent can do
An agent works with the data in your app and with the tools you connect. Examples:
- Keep a task list up to date and remind people what needs attention.
- Answer questions from your records and documents.
- Put together a regular report and send it to you on a schedule.
- Act when a record is created or changed, such as following up on a new lead.
An agent is different from the Unstack Builder. The builder changes your app. An agent does a job inside it.
Create an agent
- Open the Chat tab.
- Click + at the bottom of the sidebar and choose New agent.
- Describe what the agent should do in the box, pick one of the suggestions or templates, or choose Create blank.
The agent is created and opens in a chat, where you can start working with it or adjust it.
Set up an agent
An agent's settings have four parts:
- Employee: its name, its instructions and the AI model it uses. The model is chosen for you unless you pick one.
- Triggers: how it wakes up. An agent can run on a schedule, or when a record is created, updated or deleted. This is also where you set the channels people can reach it on.
- Sources: the tools and connected apps it is allowed to use.
- Knowledge: what it remembers and can look up.
Talk to an agent
Each agent appears in the Chat tab. Message it like a colleague. You can also add an agent to a team channel.
Approvals
When an agent needs a decision from you before it acts, the request appears in your Inbox.
Phone and text
On the Business plan an agent can have its own phone number for calls and texts. A phone number is a monthly add-on.
Credits
Agents use AI credits from the workspace pool each time they work. An agent on a frequent schedule uses credits even when nobody is watching, so start with a modest schedule and check Usage after a few days.
Who can use agents
Roles can use agents by default. An owner or admin can turn AI Agents off for a role under Tools, Team & Access, Roles & Permissions.
Agents from the Marketplace
The Marketplace has ready-made agents you can install instead of starting from nothing.
